Revelations is a film that explores themes of sexuality, repression and religion by playing into the audiences expectations of stereotypical scenarios, and then subverting it. With this film I take inspiration from films such as Dogtooth, Get Out and Rosemary’s Baby. My intention is to draw attention and create parody around the concept of the ‘Male Gaze’. This is because the majority of films and media, especially within the Australian film industry, usually do not portray a realistic vision of female sexuality. Alternatively, there is a lack of ‘non- idealised’ representation for the LBGT+ community, especially around lesbian relationships, and the relationship that these women have to their families, sexuality, religion and themselves.
